This year has been an exciting one for the Nollywood industry with the release of several blockbuster movies and entertaining TV series. Some movie stars undertook major projects and opened new businesses. Others acted in so many Nollywood movies.
We have put together a list of Nollywood actors and actresses (in no particular order) who are enterprising, pushed limits despite all odds, and are actively acting.
Ini Edo: She co-produced the blockbuster movie While You Slept, and featured in other movies such as Birthmark, Desperate Housegirls (TV series). She recently opened a bar & lounge in Lekki, Lagos.
Mary Remmy Njoku: She was active even while pregnant. She released a couple of movies such as Thy Will Be Done and Husbands of Lagos TV series which she also starred in.
Uche Jombo: Giving birth to a baby boy hasn’t slowed the Nollywood diva down. Uche Jombo studios served us fresh entertainment this year. This includes movies such as A Long Night.
Rukky Sanda: Rukky has written, produced and acted in a number of movies this year, and she just keeps going. She has released two of her own movies this year – ‘What’s Within’ and ‘Dark’.
Alex Ekubo: Alex has been quite committed to acting this year. He has featured in numerous Nollywood movies, so many that we’ve lost count. Of noteworthy mention are movies such as Single, Married & Complicated, Blackbird and Jenifa’s Diary (TV series).
Omoni Oboli: The First Lady herself! Omoni Oboli gave a stellar performance in The Duplex and Code of Silence. She also recently released her own movie titled First Lady. Besides these, she is a milk brand ambassador.
Belinda Effah: Belinda Effah showed immense commitment to acting this year. We saw her feature in many Nollywood movies such as Stop, Heroes and Villians, Desperate Housegirls (TV series).
IK Ogbonna: IK has featured in a number of Nollywood hits such as Stop, Blackbird. He also got a new endorsement deal with Tutti water, and has modeled for a few clothing lines.
Majid Michel: He wowed us in The Department. He took risks with the movie The Mad Man I Love. Majid also signed a multi-million dollar endorsement deal with an elite contemporary menswear clothing brand.
Mercy Aigbe Gentry: The actress and business woman is best known for her Yoruba movies. Asides the other movies she has featured in this year, she recently premiered her own movie, Victims. She runs a boutique named Mag Divas and is also the face of Prestige Cosmetics.
Chika Ike: Her movie Miss Teacher, was recently released. She also produced the movie All of Me earlier this year featuring the winner of her reality show, African Diva.
Funke Akindele: Funke keeps serving us so much entertainment with her TV series Jenifa’s Diary. She has also featured in a number of movies such as Uncle Oyibo. She does these while running her acting school Scene One School of Drama.
Stephanie Okereke: The new mum premiered her movie Dry, this year. She also unveiled her reality show ‘Make Me Fabulous’. She became an ambassador for Stop-VAWIE, and met The Queen of England for the Queen’s Young Leaders awards.
Iyabo Ojo: This actress and film-maker is also the CEO of Fespris Limited, which includes Fespris Production, Fespris Academy and Fespris World. She has released her own movies Black Val, Silence and Beyond Disability.
Rita Dominic: The super stylish Nollywood actress gave us an A-list performance in the blockbuster movie Iyore. She also impressed us in the TV series Cougars. She is a Zaron Cosmetics ambassador and an Africa International Film Festival ambassador.
