Shareman Media, the Nigerian producer, and FilmOne Distribution, the Nigerian distributor of the feature film ‘Half of a Yellow Sun‘, are pleased to announce that the highly-anticipated film will be released in Nigerian cinemas on Friday, the 25th of April 2014. The public release will be preceded by the African premiere, to be held in Lagos prior to the release date.

Directed by the Nigerian playwright, Biyi Bandele, ‘Half of a Yellow Sun‘ stars the BAFTA Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and BAFTA Award-winning actor Thandie Newton. Genevieve Nnaji, Onyeka Onwenu, O. C. Ukeje, Tina Mba, Zack Orji, Anika Noni Rose, Joseph Mawle and John Boyega led the supporting cast. The Film is a beautifully crafted adaptation of the international bestselling novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Set in 1960s Nigeria, ‘Half of a Yellow Sun‘ is an epic love story, weaving together the lives of four people caught up in the turbulence of the Nigerian civil war.  ‘Half of a Yellow Sun‘ is set to strike a special chord with movie-goers nationwide.
Attending the VIP premiere will be the BAFTA winner and Oscar nominee, Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), accompanied by Nigeria’s jewel, Genevieve Nnaji, O. C. The Film is directed by a Nigerian and based on a book written by a Nigerian about events that occurred in Nigeria. The bulk of the funding came from Nigeria, and the film was shot in Nigeria, with large numbers of Nigerian cast and crew. The success of the Film will require the support of all Nigerians, to ensure that many more projects that “tell our own stories” can access the required quantum of funding.

The producers humbly request all Nigerians to support this Film by watching it and encouraging their friends around the world to watch it.
