iROKOtv’s new Amazon store

‘Home of Nollywood’ iROKOtv launches Amazon Store for DVD sales

14 August 2013. London. iROKOtv, the home of Nollywood movies, today announces the launch of its official Amazon store. The move marks iROKOtv’s expansion into offline Nollywood distribution, having cemented its position as the world’s largest online distributor of Nigerian movies since its launch in December 2011.
The iROKOtv Amazon store stocks some of Nollywood’s biggest movies, including ‘Baby Oku in America’, ‘Weekend Getaway’ and ‘Single & Married’. Each unit costs £4 [excluding postage costs] and can be shipped to the UK, Europe and worldwide.  There are currently 12 movies on sale, with more to be added later in 2013. DVDs can also be purchased directly from www.irokotv.com as well.
Adi Nduka-Agwu, Head of Business for iROKOtv says: “Having conquered the online space, connecting with millions of Nollywood fans around the world online, iROKOtv has now expanded its portfolio to include the sale of DVDs, to cater for those who still prefer to watch, or can only watch, Nollywood movies offline. We’re offering the same movies and the same great quality from iROKOtv, just a different platform.”
As well as producing an online store to sell DVDs, iROKOtv is also now sells units across 136 locations across London, including Brixton, Seven Sisters, Plumstead, New Cross and Peckham. The DVD business will also be expanding to distribute its units in other key UK cities in the coming months, including Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds and the team plans to work with DVD wholesalers across Europe before the close of the year.
Nduka-Agwu continues: “We’re known for delivering the highest quality Nollywood content and with the launch of these DVDs we hope to extend our already strong Western European audience to include the more digiphobic, who love Nollywood but don’t spend much time online. We’re looking to work with wholesalers and distributors across the UK and Europe to bring Nollywood to as wide an audience as possible.”
Whilst piracy continues to be a serious issue for Nollywood, iROKOtv continues to battle against it, only publishing movies that have been legally licensed directly from the movie producers. Nduka-Agwuconcludes: “You know when you see a beautifully designed, professional DVD with iROKOtv branding that you are getting a quality item. It will play properly, in HD quality and with good sound – unlike most of the pirate movies that flood the market. We only publish movies that have been legally licensed so that the pirates aren’t profiting from copyright theft.”
